Wisconsin Supreme Court Criminal Law Update
At noon on Tuesday, September 24, 2019, at the Madison Club, Court of Appeals Judge Brian Blanchard will present his annual update of Wisconsin Supreme Court criminal cases. The presentation addresses the substantive Wisconsin Supreme Court criminal case opinions released during the 2018-19 term.
Brian Blanchard has been an Appellate Judge for the District IV Court of Appeals since 2010. Prior to joining the bench, Judge Blanchard was the District Attorney for Dane County, an Assistant United States Attorney, Criminal Division, Northern District of Illinois and Law Clerk to the Hon. Walter Cummings, Jr., U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Prior to practicing law, Judge Blanchard was a reporter for The Miami Herald.
His other law-related activities are numerous and include the following: Vice Chair, Wisconsin Judicial Council; Chair, Judicial Council - Criminal Procedure Committee; former Chair, Judicial Council -Appellate Procedure Committee; board member, State Bar of Wisconsin Appellate Practice Section; Co-Chair, Our Courts Committee of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s Public Education Committee; member, State Bar of Wisconsin 2014 National High School Mock Trial Competition Executive Committee; speaker to bench and bar groups, Wisconsin Criminal Law; former member, Wisconsin court system’s Planning and Policy Advisory Committee; member, Dane County Bar Association; member, Legal Association for Women, Dane County.
