An Employer’s Guide on Wage Garnishments

At the Madison Club at noon on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, Jacob Frost will present an Employer’s Guide on Wage Garnishments. Wage garnishments are one of the most common court proceedings that employers (including law firms) will experience. He will review the important elements of the wage garnishment process, and will provide tips on proper compliance and avoiding common pitfalls that can lead to liability for an employer who fails to properly withhold wages and promptly pay them to the creditor, or wrongfully withholds wages from the employee. This presentation will outline how to read and apply a wage garnishment order and avoid liability to either the creditor or employee. Finally, the presentation will cover what to do to minimize liability after an employer incorrectly handles a garnishment.

Mr. Frost is a partner at Boardman & Clark LLP and practices landlord/tenant law, family law, collection law (primarily creditor’s rights), and civil litigation. Jacob has assisted employers in processing, implementing and defending actions relating to earnings garnishments. Jacob graduated from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2010 and has been with Boardman since graduation.
